Berea Hardwoods Invisavue TM  Pen Blanks

Invisavue TM  pen blanks offer the pen maker a totally new and different material for their creations. There is no longer a need to paint or use colored tubes. Invisavue TM pen blanks come in nine unique color patterns to choose from.  Invisavue TM blanks are easy to turn and can easily be polished to a high gloss finish for that one-of-a-kind looking writing instrument.  Blank size is 3/4" dia. x 5 inches long (the blanks are round).

This is a different material than most acrylic blanks you may be used to.  It drills easier than most acrylics but has a lower melting temperature.  We recommend using a Norseman drill bit (because they are very sharp) and a drill speed of 800-1200RPM.  Your drill technique may require a different speed.  Based on comments I received from Reed, a skew works better on this material than a fingernail gouge.

For the record:  I had nothing to do with nor did I have any influence with naming the black & white blank MooCow.

Precautions to be observed when turning any acrylic:
  • Use very sharp tools while turning and take light cuts.

  • Wear face and eye protection and keep observers away from the turning area.

  • DO NOT turn at excessive speeds.

Berea Hardwoods Acrylic Pen Blanks

These blanks will produce some of the most beautiful pens imaginable! They turn very easily and will polish like glass when using MicroMesh (to 12,000 grit) followed by a buff using White Diamond buffing compound (see Buffing Supplies).  Even if you are a dyed-in-the-wool wood lover you will enjoy turning one of the colorful blanks.  They are easily turned and polish like glass.  These blanks are cut full size (3/4" x 3/4" x 5"+ long).

Precautions to be observed when turning any acrylic:
  • Use very sharp tools while turning and take light cuts.

  • Wear face and eye protection and keep observers away from the turning area.

The pens pictured below are representative of the newer colors.  Please be aware that the AA-B, AA-10 and AA-17A blanks can look different from one another when compared to each other of the same type.  Because of the manufacturing process each blank will have its own identity.  There can be more of one color and less of another.  The same can hold true with regards to the blanks that have three or more colors (AA-12, AA-13, and AA-17).  We hand sort these blanks to help assure color quality but we cannot guarantee that you will receive the exact same blank as pictured below.  The casting of these acrylic blanks is not an exact science.
